The Montero Legacy Fund
Scholarship & Financial Aid
Turning loss into lasting support — for those fighting to end mental health stigma.
Why This Fund Exists
When Richard Montero was taken from us in a fatal car accident, his family faced not only grief but the sudden weight of an uncertain future. The Montero Legacy Fund was born from that loss — and from Richard's deep belief that mental health matters and that no one should suffer in silence.
Based in Georgia, the fund provides scholarships and direct financial aid to mental health advocates and students who are actively working to dismantle the stigma surrounding mental health. We believe that in the hardest moments, a community that shows up can change everything.
The Richard Montero Mental Health Advocacy Scholarship
A $1,000 annual scholarship awarded to an activist pursuing a degree or certification in a mental health field — dedicated to those who are actively fighting to end the stigma surrounding mental health in Georgia.
Richard believed in showing up for people. This scholarship honors that spirit by investing in the next generation of mental health advocates — the ones willing to speak up, push back against stigma, and build a more compassionate Georgia.
